Accuses him of being in the pocket of the enemies of Pakistan

Minister for Information Pervaiz Rashid said on Thursday that he wondered how the PTI had been allotted party symbol in the last general elections despite being in violation of the Political Parties Act.

Addressing a news conference, he pointed out that under the Political Parties Act, all parties were required to submit their accounts including sources of their funds before allotment of election symbols.

He said a founding member of PTI Akbar Babar S. Ahmad brought to the notice of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) that he had raised funds for the party in the United States. These funds were used for sit-ins, protests and destabilization of the elected government of Pakistan.

He said that under the law no political party could raise funds from abroad or foreigners.

“PTI raised funds from foreign firms whose owners are Jews, Hindus and Sikhs,” the information minister said.

The Minister asked the ECP why it did not take notice of the petition of Akbar Babar for 13 months and how it proceeded to allot the party symbol to PTI without submission of accounts and disclosing sources of funding.

Rashid said Khan not only kept the ‘funds from foreign firms’ hidden from the ECP but also used them to fund his sit-ins.

“Imran Khan hurls allegations at others, he too will have to answer my questions,” he said.

The minister went on to say that Khan staged the sit-ins in Islamabad with an aim to stop the scheduled visit of the Chinese president to Pakistan. He accused Khan of being a tool in the hands of Pakistan’s enemies.

He said Khan would have to come up with a reply for “the rigging he committed to undermine the cause of democracy in the country”.
