Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Friday and discussed internal and regional security as well as situation alongwith the border with Afghanistan.

According to sources, the prime minister and the army chief also discussed the prevailing situation in neighbouring Afghanistan and its possible effects on Pakistan. The sources said that the recent rise in Taliban attacks in the neighbouring country was also discussed during the key meeting. The two leaders also discussed progress made during Operation Zarb-i-Azb so far.

The army chief also apprised the prime minister about the discussions at the Corps Commanders conference held in Rawalpindi on Thursday. Sources said Gen Raheel Sharif informed the premier about the key points discussed and agreed upon during the conference to enhance Pakistan’s security.

Discussion also took place over the PM Sharif’s upcoming visit to Washington where he will hold meetings with President Barack Obama and other top US officials.

General Raheel Sharif also briefed Premier Nawaz regarding his visits to Germany and United Kingdom where he spoke about regional security and Pak-Afghan ties while addressing a conference, and met with security officials in United Kingdom.

The meeting with Nawaz comes just a day after the premier decided to take up the matter of Indian ceasefire violations along the Line of Control and working boundary with US leadership during his trip to Washington scheduled for later this month.

Last month, during his address to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Nawaz proposed a four-point plan for resolution of the Kashmir issue.
The COAS and PM also discussed progress made during Operation Zarb-i-Azb so far, and discussed the security situation at the Pak-Afghan border and in North Waziristan.
