The only thing better than light-up sneakers is a light-up friendship bracelet.
Tech startup Gemio is launching a line of customizable wearables that sync with one another for ultimate friendship domination.
With a palette of colors that can be changed using the MyGemio App, light effects on the bracelet communicate between you and your friends: Certain colors will light up depending on who you are with, what you are doing (gesture recognition) and what you are wearing (due to an onboard color sensor.)
The bracelet itself comes in different colors and patterns, but teens can personalize their piece of jewelry by changing detachable gems using an online design studio that connects via wireless sync.
Users can also send light messages to friends. In other words, you will have to create signals — similar to Morse code or beeper codes — in order to communicate. For example, three flashes could mean your friend is on her way.
“We designed it for teens because they are trendsetters in both fashion and technology,” Michael Bettua, CEO of Gemio says. “We focused on what’s important to them: self-expression and connecting with friends.”
Although not the first piece of fashionable wearable technology (there are rings,bracelets and necklaces), Gemio’s bracelets are one of few tech wearables that allow for intricate customization.
Pre-orders for Gemio start in late November 2015 at gogemio.com. Bracelets are expected to retail between $69 and $99.
