Speakers call for pro-active role of teachers to transform society

Speakers at a function held here in connection with World Teachers Day called for a pro-active role of teachers for transformation of society in line with ideology of Pakistan.

The function was arranged by Nazriya Pakistan Council and largely attended by teachers and students. Vice Chancellor Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) Dr. Shahid Siddiqui was the chief guest.

The speakers included Senator Rozina Alam Khan, renowned literacy figure Begum Saqba Rahimuuddin, Gen (Retd) Muohammad Tahir, Mohammad Afzal Babar, Muhammad Saleem Khan, Mian Muhammad Javed and Khalique Anjum.

While paying rich tributes to teaching community for their meritorious services, they expressed the hope that they would also guide the youth about the two-nation theory and objectives of separate homeland.

Dr. Siddiqui speaking on the occation emphasized that the teachers should present themselves as a role-model before their students in their character-building. Teachers could have more effective role in classroom in shaping up students’ personality and developing their positive attitude towards society.

An updated and relevant curriculum plays very important role in educational pursuits. However, he said a hidden curriculum like demonstrating things practically, keeping up punctuality, discipline and good human-values is equally imperative.

Curriculum could be enriched and expanded by the teachers in the teaching process. He also spoke about the importance of media as most effective social institution in developing a knowledge-based society, where things flourish according to its faith and ideology.
