Shahbaz calls for stronger ties with Belgium

A trade mission led by Ambassador of Belgium in Pakistan Verheyden Frederic met Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday.

Matters of mutual interest, promotion of trade and economic relations and prospects of increases of cooperation between the two countries were discussed in the meeting.

Talking to trade mission of Belgium, the chief minister said that friendly relations existed between Pakistan and Belgium, however, there was a need of enhancing trade cooperation and exchange of trade delegations between the two countries on a regular basis. He said that Belgium was an important member country of the European Union and Pakistan wanted to promote trade relations and better cooperation with Belgium.

Sharif said that vast opportunities existed for enhancing cooperation between Punjab and Belgium.

“We are interested in benefiting from the experience and expertise of Belgium in information technology, dairy farming, protection from floods and irrigation sector. Shehbaz Sharif said that Punjab government had introduced reforms through information technology for providing best services in the province. He said that digital monitoring system had been introduced for improving performance of government departments. He said that an atmosphere conducive to foreign investors had been provided in Punjab and they were being facilitated on priority basis. He said that production could be increased due to use of modern technology in various sectors.
