The Punjab Assembly on Thursday was told that the Punjab Food Control Authority during a crackdown booked 777 offenders and recovered a fine of Rs 27 million.

During the question-hour session, Parliamentary Secretary Chaudhry Assadullah said that since the inception of the Punjab Food Ordinance on August 13, teams from the authority raided hotels, restaurants, burger and pizza houses, and meat shops in the city and acquired over 64,131 samples. Out of these samples, 3,900 failed, he added.

“A total of 5,011 FIRs were registered against the offenders,” he said.

He expressed the government’s resolve to continue the operation against unhygienic food, meat sellers and adulterers without any discrimination.

“The government is committed to ensuring provision of quality food stuff to the masses,” he added.

Earlier, the session commenced with Speaker Rana Muhammed Iqbal in the chair with a delay of one and half hours.

On a point of explanation, Law Minister Rana Sanaullah told the House that the government was going to approach the apex court for the restoration of the Farmers Package, as it wanted to benefit the farming community.

He said promotion of the agriculture sector was the priority of the government.

He slammed the opposition for politicising the Farmers Package and said that they did not want to see farmers prosperous and economically healthy.

He said the government had taken positive measures for purchasing wheat and bought the maximum quantity of wheat to provide relief to farmers.
