The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday disposed off the petition filed for the elimination of interest system in the country.

A three-judge bench of the apex court headed by Justice Sarmad Jilal Usmani heard the case.

Justice Usmani remarked during the hearing that if any person did not want to take interest, they should not receive it, and that the recipients of interest would be answerable before Allah Amighty.

Meanwhile, Raja Irshad, the counsel for the petitioner said in his arguments the SC was the safeguard of constitution and should order to eliminate the interest system.

Justice Usmani questioned the counsel how the state would eliminate the interest system? He added that the court could not open a seminary outside the SC to teach others how to eliminate interest.

“We recognize that interest is absolutely Haram but this case is under hearing in Federal Shariat Court,” he said.

After hearing the arguments of the petitioner’s counsel, the apex court disposed off the petition.
