The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday sought comments from the Karachi commissioner, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), District Municipal Corporation (DMC) South, advertising agencies and director park and recreation on the petition against allotment of green belt land for installing signboards.
The SHC bench headed by Justice Irfan Saadat took up the petition filed by Mazhar Ali Magsi who moved the court against alleged allotment of green belt lands for signboards and advertisement.
The petitioner submitted that the DMC South allotted three lands, which were originally allocated for green belt and footpath, to advertising agencies for installing signboards and Highmark.
According to the petitioner, the green belt lands of Clifton Garden 2, Dwa Chowrangi, Bilawal House and Ocean Mall Clifton have been given to advertisement agencies for 10 years for installing signboards. He submitted that the green belt and footpath were meant for pedestrians and public benefit and giving these lands for installing signboards was illegal.
Citing chief secretary, KMC, DMC South and director parks and recreation as respondents, the petitioners prayed the court to direct the authorities concerned to remove the signboards and high mark on way of green belts.
The court was also requested by the petitioner to direct the respondents to cancel the allotment of green belt land to the advertising agencies.
After the initial hearing, the court issued notices to the attorney general and respondents to file their comments on 27th October.
