KPK govt spends only 2pc development budget during first quarter

The provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhawa(KPK) has failed to achieve the development targets as it could utilise only two percent of development budget against targeted 25 percent during first quarter of current fiscal 2015-16.

According to official statistics, the government had allocated Rs 142 billion for development projects of which Rs 13.76 billion were released. However, the provincial government could only spend Rs 2.78 billion on the development projects across the province.

Out of Rs 30.27 billion allocated for district Annual Development Program, not even single penny could be released.

In the budget, the provincial government had specified Rs 17.76 billion for local government department of which it spent only around Rs 262 million from July to September this year.

The provincial government utilised only Rs 178 million out of Rs 13.50 billion specified for road projects and Rs 12 million of 1.58 billion allocated for agriculture sector.

During the previous fiscal too, the provincial government spent only 81 percent of Rs 140 billion allocated for development projects.

The said amount consisted of Rs 100 billion share of provincial government and foreign aid worth Rs 40 billion. In total the government spent 81 percent of the previous budget including Rs 90 billion from its share and Rs 24 billion from the foreign aid.
