Kenya keen to double trade volume with Pakistan; sign FTA and PTA: Kenyan HC

High Commissioner of Kenya in Pakistan Prof. Julius Kibet Bitok has said that the Kenya was intending to double the mutual bilateral trade volume with Pakistan from persisting US$ 600 million during the next two or three years, saying that the time was ripe to promote the strengthened mutual bilateral trade with Pakistan through enhancing the exports of tea, rice, traditional and non-traditional products with Pakistan.

He stated this while addressing an important meeting of Sialkot business community held at Sialkot Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI) today, after visiting the several leading industrial units in Sialkot.  Kenyan Commercial Counselor Mr. Filimona Wambulwa , acting SCCI President Muhammad Sarfraz Butt, former SVPs Mian Muhammad Anwar, Mir Alamgir Meyer and Chairperson SCCI Committee for Women Entrepreneurs Syed Shabina Gillani were also present on this occasion.

Kenyan High Commissioner High offered some direct trade relations to Sialkot exporters and announced to develop strong business to business contacts between Kenya’s National Chamber of Commerce, Nairobi   Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI).

Mr. Prof. Julius Kibet Bitok said Kenya would soon host WTO International Trade Conference at Nairobi-Kenya, saying that the Kenya would be the first African country to host this WTO trade conference, urging the World to take Kenya favourably and positively now.

He disclosed that the Kenya was also keen interested to sign some Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) and Preference Trade Agreements (PTAs) with Pakistan to ensure the bilateral trade between Pakistan and Kenya.

He said that Kenya was making some effective and positive measure to ensure the maximum flow of foreign investment, as the Kenya would provide the secured and investment-friendly atmosphere to the foreign investors especially to the Pakistani investors.

Kenyan High Commissioner announced to ensure direct imports of Sialkot-Pakistan made surgical instruments, sports goods and other products direct from Sialkot instead of importing these Sialkot made products indirectly from USA, UK, Germany and other European countries, saying that the direct imports of Sialkot made products from Sialkot-Pakistan would be very cheaper and enhance the direct trade between Pakistan and Kenya.
