Federal Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) Riaz Hussain Pirzada has said that sports complexes will be set up at the university level to promote and strengthen sports culture in the country.

Addressing a seminar under the aegis of Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) at a local hotel on Saturday, the minister said that all sports bodies of the country must dedicate all efforts, resources, wisdom and commit themselves to demonstrate credibility and sustainability for making a healthy and top sporting nation.

The minister said the sports leadership in the country was at daggers drawn when he assumed the charge as the minister, adding that confusion and chaos prevailed in the sports sector. He said there was no effective activity of sport, rather the sports sector was in great shambles and doldrums.

Pirzada said the Ministry of IPC came forward and took effective decisions to settle the various issues, adding that today the situation was different as the Ministry, PSB, POA and majority of the federations were on the same page.

The minister said sports was an important pillar of the national life and required full attention and support of all segments of society. He urged the need for discarding old ruts and conventional approach to bring sports to a respectable level. Unfortunately, he added, the majority of sports leadership was surrounded by many problems.

He said sport had the power to change and inspire the world besides the clout to unite people, adding that the sports bodies needed to rise to the occasion and change the world and societies through their sportsmanship.
