Tribal leader killed in Bannu IED blast

Tribal leader Syed Ali succumbed to injuries sustained during an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in Nullah Tochi here on Sunday. His son, who was with him at the time, was also injured in the blast.

Police said that unknown miscreants targeted vehicle of tribal elder Malik Saeed Ali Khan near Touchi Bridge in Mirian locality of district Bannu through remote control bomb in which he along with his son sustained critical wounds. The vehicle was also adversely damaged due to explosion.

Syed Ali and his son were passing by the area in a vehicle when a remote-controlled IED detonated, police said . The injured were admitted to Bannu District Headquarters Hospital for treatment where Syed Ali later expired, police sources said.

Bannu, town has witnessed a number of attacks and was the scene of a massive jail break in April 2012 during which 384 prisoners escaped from its central prison.
