- Saad Rafique says federal ministers to spearhead former NA speaker’s election campaign in NA-122 in ‘personal capacities’
Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique has announced that ministers from the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) will run the election campaign for the NA-122 by-poll in their personal capacities.
Addressing a news conference at the Lahore Press Club on Saturday, Rafique said it would be an injustice to allow just one party to campaign for the by-poll.
On September 16, the Election Commission of Pakistan had barred all parliamentarians from visiting and taking part in the by-election campaign. A tough competition is expected between Abdul Aleem Khan of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Sardar Ayaz Sadiq of the ruling PML-N in the NA-122 by-poll.
Rafique said, “PML-N’s performance has been impressive and people will vote for it.”
Lamenting a delay in the Kisan package, the minister said it was meant to provide relief to small farmers and had nothing to do with politics. “Imran Khan just cannot see development projects being completed,” he went on to say.
Taking a jab at PTI chief Khan for his criticism of the Metro Bus project, the minister questioned who had stopped him from launching similar projects in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Rafique further said that Shahbaz Sharif had changed the outlook of Lahore with development projects and the people of NA-122 would show their trust in the PML-N leadership by voting for Ayaz Sadiq.
He said Imran Khan should realise whether he was working on another countries’ agenda or doing politics for the sake of Pakistanis.
The minister said the October 11 by-election would be a success of Nawaz Sharif and the voters of Lahore would discourage the cheap politics of Imran Khan. He also termed PTI’s ruling in KPK a failure and disappointment.
The minister also pointed out that some TV channels’ anchors were involved in propaganda against his party.
