Karachiites braved another scorching day on Friday after facing the most sizzling days during the past two months, with weather pundits predicting the current spell will subside by Saturday.

As the mercury soared to a sweltering 42 degree centigrade, not many people could be witnessed coming out of their homes and brave the sizzling sun till late afternoon.

Meteorological officials said the current spell would subside by Saturday and temperatures might turn to normal in the sub-tropical metropolis.

Moreover, people of different age groups, mainly elderly, did report to hospitals due to heat-related instances mainly because of frequent power supply disruption coupled with non-availability of water.

“We did register nine weather-induced health cases on Thursday but fortunately none was very serious or severe,” said the KMC Medical Services director.

Dr Salma Kauser further said a few cases were reported Friday too but fortunately these were handled efficiently as well. “As per information available with me, no severity has been registered with these reported cases,” he added.

The health services director said the government and administration had timely informed the citizens about the ensuing situation and they were also repeatedly communicated on how to protect themselves against a possible heatwave.

“This has really paid as all of us were prepared in our respective capacities and did take necessary precautions,” said Dr Mazahir Ali, a private hospital administrator in Orangi Town.
