Child singers mesmerise audience

The child folk singers enthralled the audience of Rawalpindi and Islamabad here Saturday at the 2-day Children’s Literature Festival (CLF) at National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage, Lok Virsa.

Thousands of children from various parts of the country are actively participating in the festival and enjoying the programs chalked out by the organizers.

Lok Virsa has contributed two special segments for the ongoing festival, i.e. Child Folk Performers and Child Artisans-at-Work.

Nine child folk artists, musicians and performers took part in the live folk cultural performances held at Lok Virsa open air theatre and received a great applause from the audience.

Child singers included Wado and Gumbat from Umer Kot and Jehangir from Rohri, Zamin from Peshawar, Ashir and Subhan Niazi from Islamabad. The performers were Khalid and Ali Haidar from Islamabad. A child Dholi (drummer) Ashfaq also accompanied them in the performances.

The most prominent among them were Ashir and Subhan Niazi who are great grand sons of late legendary folk artist Tufail Niazi.

They sung popular Punjabi songs like “lai be qadran nal yari te tut gai tarak ker ke, ”

Child Artisans-at-Work featured twelve artisans/siblings of the established master artisans.

They were Ambreen Fatima in doll making, Rushna Faheem in lacquer art, Noor, Hussain, Tahir and Babar in truck art, Dua in embroidery work, Amir Gul and Aasima Bibi in basketry, Sajjad in Swati wood work, Aneel in Sindhi handicrafts and Ejaz in wood carving.
