Pakistan Today Editor Arif Nizami has said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif should have hand over the dossier containing proofs of Indian and Afghan involvement in terror activities inside Pakistan to both countries during the UN General Assembly session.
“We have been hearing from our leaders for a long time that they have proofs of Indian and Afghan involvement in Kashmir. Why did we not use the occasion to disseminate the dossier at the world forum?” Nizami said in his talkshow DNA on Channel 24.
He said that the prime minister’s speech also did not contain any specific proofs of foreign involvement in Pakistan’s affairs.
Nizami praised the fact that Nawaz Sharif had reminded UN of the long-standing resolutions that had still not been implemented. He said that while PM’s stance on Kashmir reflected the aspirations of the nation, it would not have any effect. “Any solution, if it comes, would come from back-channel diplomacy. Making public statements against each other won’t work,” Nizami said.
He said that the prime minister met a lot of world leaders, including the UN general secretary, German chancellor and other heads of states and he participated in a number of conferences but nothing of key importance to Pakistan’s interests was discussed. While a meeting with Narendra Moodi was never on the cards, there was no meeting with key Afghan officials either; and while the mid-east countries were not happy with us over Yemen, we also did not meet the Iranian president or foreign minister.
He said that on the whole, while you could not call it a failed trip, it did not have any impact.
