Govt to build hospitals and expand medical treatments: Salman

Advisor to Chief Minister on Health Punjab Khawaja Salman Rafique has said that government is taking practical steps to provide maximum medical treatment facilities to the people and for this purpose new hospitals are being constructed in different cities.

He said this while chairing a meeting to review the developmental projects of the department via video link today from Rawalpindi where he is nowadays staying on the direction of Chief Minister to monitor dengue control activities. Secretary Health Jawwad Rafique Malik, Additional Secretary Development Syed  Mehmood Hasan, Chief Planning officer Abdul Haque Bhatti and other officers were attended the meeting.

The meeting reviewed the pace of work on different projects. The meeting was told that a General Hospital is being constructed in Wah Cantt area, Tehsil Taxila total cost estimate of the project is Rs.1. 35 billion and so far Rs. 250 million have been spent on it and Rs. 100 million have been allocated for the current fiscal year. Rafique said that after completion of the hospital better healthcare facilities would be available at local level to the people of this area and they would not have to go Rawalpindi or other districts for their treatment. Rafique further said that 100 beds would be made functional in first phase in the hospital.

The meeting was informed that construction work of the extension plan of Children Hospital Multan is also in final stages and Rs.200 million has been allocated for the project in current financial year. Abdul Haque Bhatti informed that total cost of Children Hospital Multan is Rs. 1872 million. He informed that another 150 beds have been included in the hospital and the main building of the extended block has been completed. He informed that finishing of floors, false ceiling fixing, pipefitting and other civil work is under way.
