Case registered againt Mohammad Anwar of MQM

Police on Thursday registered a case against London-based Mohammad Anwar, a leader of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on charges of treason against Pakistan according to a senior police official.

Karachi-West Zone DIG Feroze Shah said that the police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Mohammad Anwar on the complaint of a citizen.

“The case was registered under sections 123-A, 124-A, 153-A and 506 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC),” said DIG Feroze Shah.

The FIR was registered by Gulbahar police.

The sections included in the FIR cover sedition, condemnation of the creation of the State, promoting enmity between different groups and criminal intimidation.

Earlier in July, MQM had sacked London-based senior party member Mohammad Anwar from the party’s central coordination committee, also known as the ‘Rabita Committee’.

The party had said the move came owing to Anwar’s continued illness, which had often caused him to “remain absent from crucial meetings.”

It is pertinent to mention here that Anwar was arrested in April this year by the London Metropolitan Police and was questioned for hours before being released on bail in connection to a money laundering investigation.
