By-poll expenses: RO serves notices on Aleem Khan, Ayaz Sadiq

The Returning Officer (RO) in the NA-122 constituency on Thursday put Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Aleem Khan and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on notice for violating the election code of conduct.

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) candidate Barrister Amir Hassan had complained that both Sadiq and Khan had exceeded the limit of expenses allowed by the Election of Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for electioneering.

The RO directed both Sadiq and Khan to submit details of their expenses along with their statements by Thursday evening, and warned that if they were found violating the electoral code of conduct, they would be dealt with sternly.

The RO also instructed the district coordination officer (DCO) and Lahore police chief to ensure implementation of the election rules.

Meanwhile, the Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan-Noorani (JUP-N) on Thursday announced support for PML-N’s Ayaz Sadiq in the NA-122 by-election.

Addressing a press conference at Jamia Naeemia, JUP-N chief Abul Khair Muhammad Zubair said the decision was taken keeping in the performance of the ruling party.

Ayaz Sadiq thanked the JUP-N, and said he enjoyed enormous support of the voters in the constituency. He also demanded the ECP to take action against those who spent more than the allowed amount on their election campaigns.
