Serena Hotels in collaboration with the Pakistan Squash Federation is all set to host the 2nd Serena Hotels – Chief of the Air Staff International Squash Championship 2015 at Mushaf Complex, Islamabad from 03 to 06 October 2015. The prequalifying rounds of the championship took place on 29 September 2015, with a draw of 16 players whereas the qualifying round will be held on 1st and 2nd October. The main rounds will be held between 03 -06 October.
Squash is widely recognized as Pakistan’s legacy. Last year’s much publicized Squash Championship, also cosponsored by Serena Hotels, was historic as it was the first time in seven years that renowned international players visited Pakistan to compete in a tournament. Omar Abdel Meguid of Egypt won the Championship trophy in a riveting final match against Pakistan’s Aamir Atlas.
The Championship trophy was unveiled at a Press Conference at Islamabad Serena Hotel. Meguid will be back this year to defend his title. International players from Austria, New Zealand, UAE and USA will also be participating. Sports Diplomacy Director, Shehryar Khan said, “the tournament provides the perfect platform for young talent in Pakistan to reclaim the legacy of Squash.”
Former World Squash Champion QamarZaman was also present at the occasion. Speaking at the occasion, QamarZamanon behalf of President, PSF assured full commitment to patronize any venture aimed to promoting healthy squash activities in the country. He also thanked Professional Squash Association for allocating high prized tournament to Pakistan. Secy PSF Group Captain Amir Nawaz said that PSF is providing extensive support and the best available facilities to its players for bringing them into the top world ranking.
