The token money of Rs 80 million will be distributed among traffic policemen next week which was pending since 2008.
Traffic police including constables and officials will get their token money of 15 percent on challans that were imposed on traffic law violators during the routine check in the metropolis since 2008, said DIG Traffic Dr Amir Ahmed Shaikh while talking to PPI on Thursday.
Amir said as the traffic police department had ensured the accountability in its department and had punished corrupt officials and constables, it was also very necessary to reward honest policemen with cash prizes which were approved by the Sindh government last year.
He said he had dismissed at least 60 officials and constables from their service on the account of misconduct from the traffic police department to ensure better system of traffic.
He said the reward money was approved since last 2002 for traffic police as a token money for imposing challans on law violators but it had been stopped since 2008.
DIG Dr Amir Ahmed Shaikh said the money had been transferred in his account, so it would be distributed among traffic police next week.
DIG SAYS TARGETING TRAFFIC COPS AIMED AT DISTURBING KARACHI OPERATION
The recent six fatal attacks on traffic policemen is an attempt of lawbreakers to affect the Karachi operation against criminals which is going in the right direction, said DIG Traffic Karachi Dr Amir Ahmed Shaikh on Thursday.
But there is no panic among the Karachi traffic police and the cops as they are doing their jobs with same zeal and zest, he added.
Dr Amir acknowledged that they were facing challenging time but they would fight the culprits at all costs who were behind the killing of traffic police in the city. He said there were rumors that some of traffic police cops had submitted their applications seeking long leave and trying to get them transferred due to unfavorable situation created for them in Karachi but it was totally misguided information which was published and transmitted in national media last day.
Talking to PPI, he said the Karachi operation had changed the mindset of criminals and had ruined their criminal activities in the city. So, now they found a soft target of attacking on traffic police whose work was to regulate the traffic only, he added.
He said they had written an official letter to the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) to repair the faulty traffic signals and ensure installation of new traffic signals on unsafe spots so as constables could be withdrawn from these dangerous points on urgent basis.
The DIG said investigation was under way that indicated that unknown gang was behind the attacks on traffic police so they would not be escaped from the law enforcers anyway. He said he was assured by DG Rangers and IG Sindh with full cooperation to stop the attacks on traffic police in the metropolis.
