Arif Nizami in his programme on TV on 01 October made a very pertinent comment that the hydel option was still the best for Pakistan but unfortunately the government is silent on Kalabagh dam.
May I point out that the issue of Kalabagh dam has been badly politicised by the PPP leadership and the people in Sindh and many in Punjab believe that the dam will reduce flow in the Indus, that Punjab will usurp Sihdh’s share of water because the dam is in Punjab and Sindh will become a desert etc.
Until and unless the people are told that no such thing will happen and that the dam will store part of the flood waters and provide equal shares to Punjab and Sindh, water which they cannot get from anywhere else.
Public opinion can only be educated through the media, both print and electronic. Our media should do more in this regard.
