MQM vows to enter LG polls with a bang

Despite facing grueling time politically, the beleaguered Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Karachi’s strongest political party, is entering the local government elections in Sindh with an aim to make a clean sweep.

“No matter how hard they try to press Karachiites, they will vote for Patang (Kite: election symbol of the MQM). Also this ongoing anti-MQM operation will never be able to divide our followers,” MQM leader Wasim Akhtar told during a press conference at the party headquarters ‘Nine Zero’.

Replying to a question, Akhtar said the call for a new province was not of MQM’s but the public. “These demands have started growing louder because the disappointed people, sick and tired of their chronic problems, want a change for the better once and for all,” the MQM leader said. “It is a legitimate constitutional demand,” he said.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced to hold the first phase of long-delayed local government (LG) polls in Sindh and Punjab on October 31. The MQM has been accused of using extortion and murder to cement its grip on power.
