Man tries to stop a dog fight, gets convicted for 13 years

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Wednesday awarded 13-year prison sentence to an accused who made threatening calls to Okara district police officer asking them “to stop a dog fight”.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the accused, Haq Nawaz, a resident of Dhok Ghunajar, Mangla (Jhelum).

According to the prosecution, the accused made a call to the landline number of Okara DPO office in February 2015 and threatened that if the dog fight set to be held at Haveli Lakkha was not stopped, he would blow up the venue.

The Okara Saddar police registered a case 86/15 under Section 25-D of the Telegraph Act and Section 7 of the Anti-terrorism Act.

There was no information on whether the dog fight was stopped.

ATC Judge Khawaja Zafar Iqbal announced the decision after hearing arguments of the parties and examining the available evidence.
