The Briton’s remarkable form continues, winning 6-3, 3-6, 7-5.
New British no.1 Johanna Konta scored the biggest win of her career in upsetting world no.2 Simona Halep – and she did it in extraordinary fashion.
Playing in the third round of the Wuhan Open in China, Konta took the first set 6-3. Halep then came back to win the second by the same scoreline and the Romanian stormed to a 5-1 lead in the 3rd, leaving things looking pretty hopeless for the Brit.
However, Konta demonstrated the steel she has added to her game this year and gradually managed to claw back the breaks, levelling at 5-5.
But that was not the moment for the Brit to breathe a sigh of relief and relax she continued in the same manner and didn’t even allow Halep to get to a tie-break, breaking her again at 6-5 to take the victory.
Jo Konta now plays Venus Williams in the quarter-finals.
