The day time temperature ranged between 40 and 41 degrees centigrade in Karachi on Thursday, compelling many of the citizens to stay indoor.

With moist content in air also quite low, people had to further brave disruption in power supply in different parts of the city due to sudden increase in load on transmission lines.

Fortunately, the power disruption was generally brief as the concerned utility following government directives had arranged back-up support system for the current three-day heat spell.

In Gulshan-e-Iqbal area, however, due to emergency situation, power supply discontinued for three hours. It was restored after necessary repair by 12:45 hours, said a KE spokesman.

A short-term moderate heat wave had been forecasted for southern parts of the country, including Karachi, from Wednesday to Friday with temperature to reach up to 41 – 44 degree centigrade.

According to meteorological department officials, night and early morning temperatures during these days may dip between 25-27’C. Due to humid and hot weather conditions during the day time, people have been advised to keep themselves hydrated, eat light food and not to move outside unnecessarily. A few cases of sun stroke were reported to different hospitals on Thursday, mainly comprising senior citizens, who were duly discharged after being provided with necessary assistance.
