Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed extreme indignation over the increase in number of dengue patients in Rawalpindi, and strongly reprimanded departments and officials concerned.

Addressing a meeting through video link on dengue control on Tuesday, the chief minister said that criminal negligence had been displayed towards taking timely measures for controlling dengue, and warned that no excuse would be accepted in this respect.

He said there was no justification for the increase in number of dengue patients this year when compared to the corresponding period last year.

Sharif said the Punjab government had evolved an effective strategy against dengue but the departments and officials concerned had shown negligence in its implementation.

He said the increase in number of dengue patients in Rawalpindi was lamentable as the departments concerned had shown negligence and dereliction of duty which, according to him, was unpardonable.
