The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday directed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to conduct local government elections on the current delimitations of constituencies in Karachi’s Malir and Korangi districts.

The SHC bench headed by chief Justice Faisal Arab disposed of the petitions filed by Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) challenging delimitations made by Sindh government for upcoming local government elections.

The court declared the delimitations of districts Malir and Korangi as legal and observed that ECP should conduct elections on these constituencies.

The MQM showed its concerns in delimitations of Karachi’s districts as according to them the provincial government had mixed up several areas of district Malir and district Korangi in each other during the delimitation process. The party declared this as provincial government’s pre-poll rigging.

It is pertinent to mention here that on 18th September the SHC had annulled delimitations made by the Sindh government in which the government had mixed up urban and rural areas into one another. The court had reversed urban and rural areas to their original positions on the petitions of MQM.
