An anti-terrorist court (ATC) in Karachi handed down on Wednesday a collective sentence of 19 years to a man in cases related to possession of explosive material and an illegal weapon.
Obaidur Rehman, who is said to be a political activist, was found guilty of carrying explosive substances and an unlicensed weapon in Sohrab Goth area of Karachi last year. Judge Bashir Ahmed Khoso of the ATC-I sentenced Rehman to 14 years imprisonment in the explosive material case and five years in the illegal weapon case. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 and in case of non-payment the convict would have to undergo an additional six months in prison. However, both sentences would run concurrently. The accused was also booked for attacking a police party, but the prosecution had failed to prove it.
