The Sindh High Court on Tuesday adjourned the hearing of a petition seeking custody of Geeta, a blind and deaf Indian girl, who has been stuck in Pakistan over a decade.
A SHC bench headed by Justice Sajjad Ali Shah was hearing the petition filed by a Hindu NGO seeking Geeta’s custody to take her care according to Hindu religion.
On Tuesday’s hearing, the attorney general had requested for some time to file comments on behalf of the government. The court accepted his request and adjourned the hearing. The next date of the hearing will be decided by the court’s office.
According to the petitioner, Atam Parkash Chanani, founder of a Hindu NGO, Geeta has been in Pakistan for 13 years and living in Edhi shelter home.
Parkash submitted that Geeta alias Guddi was found in Samjhota Express and authorities believed that she had crosses Pak-India border via train. Citing the ministry of foreign affairs, DG Rangers Punjab, Inspector General of Punjab police, interior ministry, Edhi welfare trust as respondents, the Hindu NGO prayed to the court to direct the respondents to hand over Geeta’s custody to them for her good care as per to Hindu religion. They also requested the court to direct the respondents to produce past record of Geeta.
