The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday rejected the review petition filed by Muhammad Saeed, and upheld the capital punishment awarded to the sepoy by the military court for killing five soldiers.

Saeed had been convicted at a court-martial and awarded death penalty for killing five soldiers during duty hours.

A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Anwar Zaheer Jamali took up the case for hearing on Tuesday.

At the outset of the proceedings, Col (r) Muhammad Akram, the counsel for the petitioner, told the bench that the military court had handed down the death sentence without hearing the stance of his client fully.

The court however, after hearing the petitioner’s detailed stance, upheld the military court’s verdict by rejecting the review plea.
