Dr Asim Hussain, a senior Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader and close aide of former president Asif Ali Zardari, has been taken back into Rangers custody after he was discharged from the National Institute of Cardio Vascular Diseases (NICVD).

The former petroleum minister remained under treatment at the hospital for a week after he complained of pain in the chest.

On Sunday the medical board set up to examine Hussain said he was no longer suffering from stomach acidity and his health condition was gradually improving.

Dr Hussain was arrested last month over charges of corruption and supporting terrorists and has been in Rangers custody on a 90-day physical remand.
