- Punjab CM says every penny of public money being spent honestly
Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Monday that transparency, standard and speedy completion of development projects was the hallmark of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and third-party audit system has been introduced for this purpose.
Talking to a delegation of PML-N representatives, he said that funds were a trust of the nation and every penny of public money was being spent honestly on welfare of the masses.
Sharif said the government was serving the people honestly and this process would continue in the future as well. He said that sit-ins and protests last year had caused a huge loss to the national economy and the process of progress and development was hindered.
He said the elements which wasted the precious time of the nation did not care about national interests or welfare of the common man. However the PML-N government, he added, restarted the process of national development with a new determination.
Referring to the projects of development of Punjab and provision of basic amenities to the people, Sharif said that a culture of merit, transparency and speedy execution of development projects had been promoted in the province.
He said billions of rupees were being spent on projects aimed at provision of education, health and other basic facilities to the masses.
The chief minister said that supply of potable water would be ensured in all tehsils of Punjab by 2017 under the Saaf Pani Project and this programme had been started from South Punjab. He said a sum of Rs 70 billion would be spent on this project during next two and a half years.
