Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Pervaiz Rasheed has said that the government is fully committed to transforming Pakistan into a secure, peaceful and prosperous country.

Interacting with reporters after celebrating Eid with children at the Child Protection Bureau, the minister said the dictatorship lost ten precious years of the country and gave the gift of terrorism to people. He said the present government led by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was determined to weed out terrorism.

Rasheed said the campaign against terrorism was succeeding and the year 2015 was becoming more secure as compared to the last few years. He said incidents of terrorism had reduced and terrorists were now running away to other countries.

The minister said Pakistan was in contact with Afghanistan and Kabul, adding that the country had pledged it would not allow its soil to be used for terrorism against other countries.

To a question, Rasheed said all political parties were working in unison to eliminate terrorism and address the energy crisis.

In reply to another query, the minister said Prime Minister Sharif, who was in New York, would take up the issues of national interest during his engagements at the United Nations. “He would present Pakistan’s point of view before the international community,” added the minister.

Earlier, referring to hapless children with whom he celebrated Eid, Rasheed said the government was working to safeguard the rights of the underprivileged classes.
