- JuD among outfits ‘banned’ from collecting hides this Eid
Around 15 cases were lodged against illegal or unregistered hide collectors and 200 hides were confiscated in raids conducted by the district coordination officer (DCO) and police during Eidul Azha.
According to reports, banned outfits had adopted different ways of collecting hides of sacrificial animals while some of them had formed new welfare organisations to benefit from the religious festival.
“Till Sunday, we registered FIRs against 15 unregistered hide collectors and confiscated 200 hides,” said a spokesperson for the DCO, adding the raids were carried out on orders of the high-ups.
The capital city police officer (CCPO) Lahore and DIG Operations had ordered deployment of police personnel on Eidul Azha to check illegal collection of hides.
The banned Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) was one of the many outfits that were barred from collecting hides of sacrificial animals.
When contacted a JuD leader said his organisation was prohibited from collecting hides in Punjab, but complained that police committed excesses by arresting workers of their party’s welfare wing.
He said that even JuD’s application for hides’ collection was not entertained till Eid, adding that the government and police played games with his party when they asked it to get permission from the court through an application.
According to police, the charities that were permitted to collect hides included Sahara For Life Trust, Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Edhi Foundation, Fatmeed Foundation, Medicare Trust, Fountain House, AQ Khan Hospital Trust, Jamia Naeemia, Noor Thalassemia Foundation, Al-Khidmat Foundation, Minhaj Welfare Foundation, Nagina Social Welfare Society, Dawat-e-Islami, Al-Sheikh Dar-ul-Shifa, Ubair Foundation, Anees Fatima Trust, Akhuwat Foundation, Al-Ehsan Welfare Eye Hospital, Ubair Welfare Trust, Madrassa Khuddam Ahl-e-Sunnat Taleem-ul-Quran, Muhammadi Medical Trust, Chishtian Welfare Society, Ghurki Trust Teaching Hospital and Rising Sun Education Welfare Society.
