The Federal Flood Commission (FFC) reported on Tuesday that a very high flood levels are likely during the next 36-48 hours in rivers Jhelum and Chenab.
Daily report of the FFC said that high floods were also expected in the local nullahs including tributaries of rivers Ravi and Chenab during the same period.
Currently all main rivers including Rivers Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej are flowing normally.
The river flows and reservoir elevations indicate that Tarbela and Mangla reservoirs are at elevations of 1510.88 feet and 1224.65 feet respectively, which are 39.12 feet and 17.35 feet below their respective maximum conservation levels of 1550.00 feet and 1242.00 feet.
According to the Flood Forecasting Division, Lahore, yesterday’s well marked Low over Gujarat (India) lies over Southern Rajasthan (India). It is likely to move further North-Northeastwards.
Yesterday’s trough of Westerly Wave over Northern parts of the country has slightly moved Northeastwards. Yesterday’s Monsoon Low over Western Bengal has become insignificant.
As predicted by the Flood Forecasting Division, Lahore, widespread thunderstorm/rain with heavy falls is expected at scattered places and very heavy falls at isolated places is expected over the upper catchments of Rivers Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej including Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sahiwal, Multan, D.G. Khan and Bahawalpur Divisions during the next 24 hours. Scattered thunderstorm/rain with isolated heavy falls may also occur over Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Mardan and Kohat Division including upper catchment of River Indus during the same period.
Significant rainfalls were reported by the Flood Forecasting Division, Lahore during the past 24 hours include: Lahore (Airport, 93 mm; Shahdara, 48 mm; Shahi Qilla, 46 mm; Misri Shah, 42 mm; Lakshmi Chowk, 40 mm; Gulberg and City, 37 mm each, Upper Mall, 33 mm; Iqbal Town, 32 mm; Samanabad, 30 mm; Gulshan-e-Ravi, 26 mm; Township, 25 mm; Tajpura, 23 mm; Mughalpura and Johar Town, 21 mm each), Kotnaina, 90 mm; Bahawalpur (Airport, 87 mm and City, 65 mm), Bahawalnagar, 78 mm; Marala (Shampur), 56 mm; Sahiwal, 49 mm; Chhor, 45 mm; Jassar and Okara, 44 mm each, Ravi Syphon and Thatta, 41 mm each, Parachinar, 35 mm; Shorkot, 34 mm; Sialkot (Airport, 31 mm and Cantt, 29 mm), Gujranwala, 29 mm; Palku and Kasur, 25 mm each, Faisalabad and Toba Tek Singh, 22 mm each, Jhang, 15 mm; Gujrat and Multan, 10 mm each.
