Seven Pakistani nationals were among 23 suspected militants who were detained in a number of raids by the Afghan Intelligence, NDS over the past few days. The militants had intended to disrupt Eid celebrations in the country, said the Afghan intelligence officials.

The suspects were arrested during several raids, said National Directorate of Security (NDS) in a statement on Tuesday.

The detainees had received instruction from the Quetta Shura and the Haqqani group to conduct attacks in Kandahar, Balkh, Helmand, Nimroz and Logar provinces, the statement claimed.

A large quantity of arms and explosives, a vehicle and military uniforms were also recovered from the suspects, it added.

This comes after the interior ministry announced that the security has been beefed up in Kabul and other cities in a bid to prevent any subversive activities during Eid-ul-Azha, starting from Thursday.
