A petition was submitted in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday, challenging the Rs 341 billion relief package announced by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for farmers.
Petitioner Shahid Orakzai said that the relief package for farmers cannot be approved without permission from the National Assembly.
He said that introduction of a supplementary budget is mandatory for this package. There is no room for the payment of such a huge amount without a supplementary budget. He requested the court to immediately bar the payment of this package.
Justice Athar Minallah directed the registrar office to remove objections on the petition and set a date for hearing.
It is pertinent to mention here that the opposition parties have also rejected the relief package for farmers, terming it pre-poll rigging ahead of the local government elections.
