The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday filed an application with the district returning officer (DRO), seeking army deployment for the NA-122 by-election.

The plea, submitted on behalf of PTI election candidate Aleem Khan, requested the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to deploy army officials, keeping in view the two consecutive attacks on party MPA Aslam Iqbal’s residence and the murder of a PTI candidate for the local body (LB) elections in Garhi Shahu area.

The petitioner also feared that the opposing candidate might resort to coercive measures to skew the ballot.

Earlier, PTI chief Imran Khan had also demanded army deployment on the polling day.
