US-India Strategic and Commercial Dialogue begins today

The first ministerial-level US-India Strategic and Commercial Dialogue (S&CD) will be held in Washington DC on September 22 to discuss specifics of bilateral agenda of cooperation in different fields.

Indian Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj will lead the Indian delegation and include Minister of State for Commerce & Industry & Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman and Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power, Coal and New and Renewable Energy Piyush Goyal. The US delegation would include Secretary of State John Kerry, Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker and Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz.

India and the United States launched the Ministerial-level Strategic Dialogue in July 2009. The decision to elevate the India-US Strategic Dialogue into a Strategic and Commercial Dialogue was taken during the visit of US President Barack Obama to India in January 2015.

During the meeting, several bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual interest would be discussed between the two sides, according to an announcement by the Indian embassy.

Indian Prime Minister Narandera Modi will arrive in the United States on September 24, and will be representing India at the UN General Assembly. His engagements include an address at the  UN Sustainable Development Summit for formal adoption of post-2015 new sustainable development agenda.
