Children’s Literature Festival from Oct 1 at Lok Virsa

The National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage (Lok Virsa) will organise a three-day Children’s Literature Festival (CLF) at Shakarparian from October 1-3.

Announcing the event, a joint press conference was addressed by Lok Virsa Executive Director Dr. Fouzia Saeed, Senior Program Officer of Open Society Foundations Ms. Nargis Sultana, and CLF Program Manager Ms. Maham Ali.

They said that the three day literature celebration will dedicate the first day to a teachers literature festival in which programs, workshops and performances for teachers will be hosted.

“In the remaining two days, the participating children will not only enjoy literature but culture, drama, puppet shows, storytelling sessions and many more interesting activities,” they further added.

Explaining the objectives of the festival, the organisers informed that the CLF seeks to promote a reading culture for creativity, imagination and multi-sensory stimulation beyond classrooms and textbooks.

The eminent authors, poets, writers and institutes would also participate in the festival.

Dr. Fouzia Saeed said, “Our focus is to invest in our children and give them a sound cultural identity well rooted in our folk heritage.”

She said that Lok Virsa will add a cultural dimension to the event and will have sessions and musical performances by children folk artists and musicians.

A children artisans-at-work featuring siblings and students of master artisans in various specialised craft fields such as lacquer art, embroidery, doll making, pottery making, wood carving, weaving, truck art, basketry, etc. will also be organised during the festival wherein these artisans will demonstrate their workmanship at the beautifully designed pavilions at the Heritage Museum.
