While Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) Chairman Maulana Tahir Ashrafi is in Makkah to perform Hajj, a private news channel reported that police have arrested him for carrying alcohol in Pakistan.
According to the private Neo news channel, Ashrafi was rushed to the police station immediately after his arrest; however, authorities allowed him to walk away after a media person supposedly interfered. “The police recovered bottles of liquor from the vehicle,” the news channel had claimed.
However, the news story fell apart when the PUC chief took it to Twitter to say: “I am in Makah and it is enough to prove them as fake.”
Later on Ashrafi requested his friends to stop any further discussion on this topic. “I forgave those who did this before leaving Mina,” he said.
