The Supreme Court (SC) has sought detailed records of government employees of Grade 1 to 15 and parties concerned within 10 days on a petition filed against a cabinet committee decision to regularise temporary and daily waged employees during the PPP regime.

The cabinet committee under the present National Assembly (NA) Opposition Leader Syed Khurshid Ahmad Shah had ordered that temporary employees in federal ministries, departments and corporations be regularised, on September 30, 2011.

Justice Dost Muhammad Khan remarked, “Cabinet committee does not do anything on its own. The prime minister constitutes it to resolve some important disputes. The signatures of the finance secretary show that the finance division had approved this too.”

Justice Ejaz Afzal remarked that the petitioners should file all the records regarding who the employees were and where they were appointed, along with when they were regularised.

Counsel for the petitioners Abdul Rehman Siddiqui told the court that the former government had regularised temporary and daily wages employees with political bias. There were no available seats for these positions, nor did a budget exist for the purpose.

The court remarked, “The finance secretary was also present in the meeting.”

The court adjourned the hearing of the case for 10 days besides seeking all the record pertaining to the regularisation, from the parties concerned.
