Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Sirajul Haq said on Saturday that despite serious differences with the federal government on the various issues, his party wanted the federal and provincial governments to complete their term so that none could talk of victimisation.
Addressing the DI Khan Bar Association, Haq said that democracy could be strengthened by providing it with another chance and not through dictatorship.
The JI chief said the responsibility for the repeated dictatorial rules in the country lay on the so-called democratic governments that exploited the masses in the name of democracy. The political parties championing the cause of democracy did not have democracy in their own ranks, he observed.
Haq said several families had set up properties in the name of political parties and the leadership of these parties passed on from the father to son or daughter and to grandson, while poor workers who raised party slogans and fixed party posters all their life, could not get any respectable place in the party.
