- Punjab CM says Rs 33 billion being spent on energy projects under CPEC
Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Sunday the people of Pakistan and their future generations would never forget the historic economic package of China for them.
The chief minister made these remarks during his meeting with Yu Yong, the president of a prominent Chinese company in energy sector, where progress of the Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park project, Bahawalpur, under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) came under discussion.
Sharif said China was playing a commendable role in development of the various sectors of Pakistan and the people of Pakistan highly valued the cooperation and friendship of China.
He asked the Chinese company to further accelerate the work on the solar power project, and said under the CPEC, an investment of Rs 33 billion was being made only in the energy projects.
Sharif said China had proved to be a true friend of Pakistan by helping it overcome the energy crisis. He said the CPEC projects were an invaluable gift by the Chinese president and the government.
He said a solar project of 100-megawatt with Chinese investment under the CPEC would be completed next month while several projects would be producing energy till 2017.
The chief minister said a number of Chinese companies were working in Pakistan and Pak-China friendship had turned into strong economic cooperation. He said the economic package of billions of dollars given by China to Pakistan augured well for a bright economic future of the country.
Sharif said the people of the whole region including Pakistan would benefit from the CPEC projects and millions of new job opportunities would be created. He said no compromise would be made on the standard and transparency of the projects.
Yu Yong, on the occasion, said the chief minister had ensured transparency, speed and a high standard in the implementation of the projects which was highly commendable. He said the people of Punjab were fully benefiting from the practical measures and the development projects executed by the chief minister.
