Knowledge Park worth Rs 21b on the cards for Lahore

Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Saturday that the establishment of Knowledge Park of international standard in Lahore will play an important role in promotion of science, information technology, education and research.

The chief minister, while chairing a meeting held to review the progress of the revolutionary project, said it would prove to be a milestone in promotion of education and research.

Shehbaz announced to allocate Rs 21 billion for the project during next three years, adding that the Punjab government would provide Rs 7 billion every year for its implementation from its own resources.

The CM was also given a detailed briefing about the initial features of the project by a foreign consultant during the meeting.

Shehbaz ordered that all necessary matters relating to the project should be finalised speedily and the work of the design of the project should be completed at the earliest.

He said that admission to the universities to be established under the project would be provided only on merit while talented youth of poor families would get admission on a priority basis.

The chief minister said that speedy development was impossible without education and only those nations had achieved development goals speedily that had provided resources for promotion of education.

Shehbaz further said that provision of resources for promotion of education was a useful investment and the Punjab government would make investment on the future of Pakistan under the Lahore Knowledge Park project.

Among others Punjab Education Minister Rana Mashhood, the Punjab Text Book Board chairman, vice-chancellors, educationists and Planning and Development chairman attended the meeting which discussed various proposals relating to the project.
