Eid-ul-Azha prayers will be offered at more than 3,100 mosques, 220 Imam-bargahs and 450 eidgahs across the metropolis with 15,500 policemen to be deployed on security duty at the sites.
This was shared during a meeting chaired by Inspector General of Police Sindh, Ghulam Hyder Jamali, on Sunday to review security arrangements for varied public places during the three day Eid-ul-Azha.
The 15,500 cops on security duty would also be complemented by more than 450 police mobile and 200 plus men belonging to reserved force. Besides this, a sizable number of personnel will patrol on motorbikes and other police vehicles.
The IG ordered to beef up security and facilitate strict compliance of the code of conduct developed for hide collection. Jamali urged the officials to ensure recording of the Eid-related activities with specific reference to surveillance and monitoring through central command and control centre being established at the central police office.
Close liaison between CPO and monitoring cells, already functional at different police stations, was also ordered to check any suspicious activity at public places, ranging from shopping centres, cattle markets, parking areas to places scheduled to have congregations and their surroundings.
The provincial police chief said that all sites for prayers must be particularly covered with due provision for patrolling on routes leading to these places. Responding to information that the number of personnel belonging to Range police and crime police has also been increased to make Eid security arrangements fool proof, he said all police units must be equally involved in the implementation of the security plan.
Coordination with intelligence and other security agencies must also be improved, he told the police officials, urging them to particularly focus on law and order-related challenges. Seeking pro-active policing, Jamali urged the officials to pay equal attention towards intelligence sharing and its follow-up ensuring that timely action is taken to avert any loss.
