The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has prepared revised PC-I for the ongoing project of Gulberg-Jail Road Signal-Free Corridor set to be completed on October 30.

Under revised PC-I, the cost of the project would be increased by Rs 400 million and the total cost would reach Rs 1.9 billion from Rs 1.5 billion.

Sources in the LDA said the PC-I would be submitted for approval within the next couple of days. They said the major reasons for revising the PC-I were a delay due to the litigation, extension work on the righter link of Jail Road towards Cantt and shifting of facilities and public utilities.

According to the sources, the timeline given by the Punjab government for completion of construction work would remain the same.

Moreover, digging for the under-passes is being carried out, while most of the infrastructure of the LESCO, WASA, Sui gas, telephone and other departments has been shifted to alternate places.

Meanwhile, the LDA has decided to bring some changes in the design of the project due to which PC-I is being revised as per requirements.

Under the new design, the re-modelling of roads from Siddique Trade Centre towards Cantonment would be carried out to ease the flow of traffic.

Also, the Kinnaird College for Women has been asked to give some land for drop lane from the existing boundary wall area, after which the wall would be reconstructed.

The signal-free corridor will be started from the Liberty roundabout and ended at Qurtaba Chowk near Ferozepur Road. It will not only cut down road occupancy time, but also increase the capacity of Jail Road and Main Boulevard Gulberg.

The length of the road under the project is 7.6 kilometres and it includes two underpasses at Shadman Chowk and Fawara No 1 Chowk T-Junction, near Siddique Trade Centre besides re-modelling of Main Boulevard Gulberg and the reconstruction of Jail Road from Sherpao Bridge to Qurtaba Chowk.
