The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday reserved judgment on the petition filed against the district court decision of imposing fine on Babar Awan advocate in a libel case against Imran Khan.

The defamation and compensation claim case was filed by former chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Chaudhry against PTI chief Imran Khan.

Dr Babar Awan advocate appeared before the single member bench of Noor ul Haq N Qureshi, while Sheikh Ahsan Ud Din advocate represented the former CJP.

Sheikh Ahsan ud Din told the court that the former CJP Iftikhar Chaudhry had cancelled the license of Babar Awan advocate who, as a result, was biased against Iftikhar Chaudhry. Therefore, he could not appear as a lawyer in the court in the compensation claim case.

He argued that they had raised objections against Babar Awan advocate but replies to those objections have been submitted by Imran Khan.

Babar Awan advocate told the court that every person had the right to hire lawyer of his own choice to defend him.

District and Sessions Judge Islamabad Kamran Basharat Mufti had imposed a fine of Rs 500 on Babar Awan advocate for not filing a reply to the objections in a Rs 20 billion libel and compensation claim case.
