In the wake of recent killings involving policemen and countless terrorist attacks in Karachi, a comprehensive security plan for traffic policemen has been finalised.

Under the plan, concrete checkpoints, equipped with SMG rifles, are being constructed at the highways, where policemen will be performing their duties as per schedule.

Every police officer will be provided with small arms for protection, while the administration has also started training the officials to handle ammunition.

Under the plan, police and Rangers have been issued orders for increasing patrolling at the traffic signals, while Rapid Response Force (RRF) commandoes have been deputed to impart training to police officials.

Meanwhile, police on Wednesday arrested a suspected terrorist having involvement in armed attacks on traffic policemen.

Identified as Bilal, 24, a resident of New Karachi, the suspect was apprehended from the Civil Hospital Karachi, where he was being treated for a gunshot wound in the face.

According to police officials, Bilal was wounded when he traded fire with a traffic policeman near the Board Office in North Karachi.

Leaving his motorcycle at the crime site, the suspect then got on a bus and disembarked at Nagan Chowrangi from where his accomplices shifted him to Guru Mandir.

Afterwards, he was ferried to the Civil Hospital Karachi using an ambulance under the pretext that he got injured during a robbery bid.

The suspect has been shifted to an undisclosed location for further investigation.
